When I woke up on Monday morning, the first thing that I did was look up Rihanna’s halftime Super Bowl performance. As far as I am concerned, the 2023 Super Bowl was just a Rihanna concert with some football before and after it. Being in Paris I knew that discussion of the Super Bowl would be slim. There is no football, just football. Cough *soccer* cough.

However, I knew that I could satisfy my Super Bowl talk with social media, and with every app that I opened, Rihanna’s face was the first thing that I saw.

One of the most popular points of discussion that I noticed was Rihanna and her dancers outfits. While I believe that Rihanna can pull off anything, her dancers were compared to marshmallows. Personally, if I got the opportunity to be one of Rihanna's backup dancers I would not care if they dressed me up as one of the most abominable creatures to walk this earth. Yet, while many people are making this comparison, these outfits, though maybe not so bright and uniform in color, could be confidently worn in the streets of Los Angeles and nobody would bat an eye. With the baggy pants and puffer jackets, this is a regular street wear look that you would see back home.

When I came to this conclusion, I couldn't help but wonder what a local Parisian would think of someone wearing one of these outfits while casually out and about. And not during fashion week, when outfits like this can be overlooked with all of the outsiders visiting Paris. Now that I have been here for almost six weeks, I think that even I would do a double take, so I cannot imagine what someone who has lived here for their whole life would be thinking. Starting off with the color itself, white would be a very bold choice to solely walk around in Paris in. Can I state the specific reasoning for this? No. But it just is not done. And I would not want to step foot near the metro in an all white outfit. Then, there's the pants. Very baggy. I have been able to get away with the occasional cargo pant look during my time here, partly because that is what my closet consists of. However, I knew better than to even pack any of my overly baggy, almost parachute style pants. This look seemingly takes away from the classy and sophisticated look that one would expect from a Parisian. Then there's the jacket, and while I recently discussed in a previous post that puffer jackets, though not as common are utilized here, it all comes back to the white color, its just a bold choice that people will stare at you for.

Depending on what kind of experience you are looking for while in Paris, you could totally pack a 2023 Super Bowl inspired outfit and rock it so long as you don't mind the looks you will receive. I received multiple looks today when I decided to go out wearing leggings and a t-shirt, but as long as you do it with confidence then does it really matter? Nope. And I was tired. Therefore I was unable to live up to the Parisian standards, but it hasn't even been 6 weeks yet, so they can't be expecting too much from me just yet.
