The musée des Arts décoratifs will celebrate the 1980s with a major exhibition entitled Années 80, Mode, design et graphisme en France, a fantastic display of objects, furniture, fashion designs, posters, photographs, videos, album covers, and fanzines that were aligned with the historical decade. Last week, I had the opportunity to explore the exhibition and was immediately blown away. I fell in love with the robust patterns, bright colors, and unusual shapes that filled every corner of the room. In addition, my visit to The musée des Arts décoratifs influenced me to incorporate some playful statement looks within the 1980s wardrobe. Here are some tips if you're looking to bring the '80s back while still being on-trend.

Whether you prefer a classic check, an edgy kaleidoscopic pattern, or a cutesy motif, geometric shapes are a great way to include a hint of the 1980s within your look. Feel free to make a statement with exaggerated pieces. Oversized jackets and dramatic shoulder pads were a well-loved staple of the '80s and paired well with a miniskirt for a power look that's both strong and sexy. Add a bright color to the outfit for the full 80's effect if you feel brave enough! Patchwork and acid-washed denim were very much a thing, as were ruffles and off-the-shoulder dresses. Loud prints, mom jeans, and bomber jackets were everywhere and are still unique pieces to add to your everyday look. Finally, remember your accessories. Futuristic cyclops sunglasses were hot in the '80s, and they're hot again. Chunky accessories like plastic hoop earrings, rubber bracelets, and shiny chain necklaces were necessary.

Critical elements of '80s fashion include color, playfulness, and comfort — all we love now. The 80s brought us fishnets and leg warmers, made a case for leggings-as-pants, and allowed electric colors to fly free. The eclectic style of the 80s is exciting and still prevalent within fashion today. You may already be incorporating pieces of the 80s within your wardrobe without even knowing. '80s styling had an "anything goes" attitude, so you should too! Have fun exploring.

xoxo, Bella
