The Dior Show was Cold

Freezing because it’s 30 degrees but clinging to an ounce of hope that we might be invited into the Dior Haute Couture fashion show: me on Tuesday, January 23rd.

For an hour, I stood outside the Rodin Museum in Paris to watch those who were invited walk into Dior’s Fashion Week show. About a hundred had the same idea, so I didn’t feel too crazy. We stood on the crowded street lined with security, hoping we would recognize anybody who walked past us and towards the entrance–we didn’t. Actually, that’s a lie. We saw Rosamund Pike (Amy in Gone Girl)...but I didn’t know who she was until my friend told me 5 minutes later.

As absurd as it sounds, I enjoyed the sort of off-brand fashion show we experienced. I took pictures when everybody else did, not knowing who these people were, and admired the head-to-toe Dior outfits that attendees wore. I’ve included some of my favorites below:

As we walked back, we could hear the music coming from the tents in Rodin’s garden. That, I must say, was the coolest part. When I watched the live stream 20 minutes later in the warmth of my apartment, I could decipher what part of the show was happening while we stood by the gates watching the tents. Yes, we stared at tents for about 5 minutes, and I have no shame for it.

Would I do it again? Yes. In fact, I ran past the crowd outside of Chanel’s show and observed for about 10 minutes, praying that I could catch a glimpse of… anybody? Overall, being in Paris during fashion week was just a very important experience to cross off my bucket list. The streets are filled with cool people with incredible style, and the buzzing nightlife is exciting. Even though my “Mom, do we know anybody who could possibly get me into Fashion Week?????” text was not very successful, I’m happy to play the role of infatuated bystander.

Xoxo, layne
